Substitute midfielder Jose Munoz scored in stoppage time Tuesday to give Everton of Chile a 2-1 away victory over Lanus and put the Argentine team on the verge of elimination from Group 6 of the Copa Libertadores.

Munoz scored three minutes into stoppage time at the Lanus stadium after Santiago Biglieri had put the Argentines in front in the 30th minute and Roberto Gutierrez equalized for Everton in the 52nd.

The result leaves Everton level with Mexican club Chivas at the top of the group on seven points. Caracas of Venezuela has six points, with Lanus trailing on two.

Munoz replaced Gutierrez in the 87th minute and beat goalkeeper Carlos Bossio after a neat half-turn in the box to leave Lanus hopes of reaching the last 16 in serious jeopardy.

The Buenos Aires club has stormed to the top of the Argentine league this year with five victories from six, but is winless in four matches in the Libertadores.

Until Biglieris strike, Everton goalkeeper Gustavo Dalsasso had kept the scoreline blank despite the Chileans enjoying a healthy amount of possession.

A lapse in the Everton defense finally forced Dalsasso to bring down Blanco for a penalty. The goalkeeper saved Sands kick, but Biglieri pounced on the rebound to open the scoring.

Gutierrez scored after a move that started with a Lanus corner. Gutierrez smashed a left-footed shot past Bossio between two defenders.

Lanus visit Chivas on April 14, while Everton travel to Venezuela to meet Caracas.
