Turkey forward Mevlut Erding pulled one goal back for Sochaux in the 73rd, outpacing the Marseille defense to slip the ball past France goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.
“We had the game under control,” Marseille coach Eric Gerets told Canal Plus television, “but at 2-1 we started to complicate things. Again, it was our goalkeeper who saved us.”
Mandanda blocked with his feet a close-range shot from Erding in the 84th before stopping a header from the Turkey striker in stoppage time.

“It’s nice to be in the upper half of the table,” Rothen told Canal Plus television. “There’s a change in the team’s mind-set (compared to last season). It’s 11 players who want to win and fight for the ball on every play. We have to keep it going. It’s just the fourth round and the season is quite long.”
